Trimix Injection

Combination injectable for erectile dysfunction (state-restricted).

What it does

What Trimix Injection is and why doctors prescribe it.

Trimix is a compounded injectable combination of papaverine, phentolamine, and alprostadil (PGE1) used for erectile dysfunction in patients who don't respond adequately to oral PDE-5 inhibitors. It's prescribed by urologists and sexual-health doctors and dispensed in states where the regulatory environment permits.

How it works

Mechanism in plain English.

Each component contributes to penile smooth-muscle relaxation through a different pathway: papaverine is a non-specific PDE inhibitor, phentolamine is an alpha-adrenergic blocker, and alprostadil is a PGE1 analog. Combined, they produce a more reliable response than any one alone, often even when PDE-5 inhibitors fail.

How long it's been studied

Research history.

Each component has been clinically used for decades; the combination has been compounded for ED since the 1980s-90s. Prescribing patterns and safety data are well-established in urology practice.

Dosing

Clinical context for the prescribing doctor.

Doctor-prescribed and titrated under medical supervision. Trimix is dispensed in vials with doctor-instructed dosing volumes (typically 0.05–0.5 mL injected into the corpora cavernosa). Initial dosing is done in the doctor's office to titrate response and avoid priapism.

This page is informational, not a dispensing aid. Trimix Injection is dispensed only on a patient-specific prescription written by a licensed doctor for an identified patient. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and should not be evaluated using branded-drug trial data. Availability varies by state and prescribed medication.
