Peptides · Metabolic & longevity (under FDA review)
Mitochondrial-encoded peptide.
What it does
MOTS-C is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome (specifically the MT-RNR1 region) — one of the few characterized peptides encoded outside the nuclear genome. Research interest centers on metabolic and longevity contexts. Under FDA review.
How it works
MOTS-C is released from mitochondria in response to metabolic stress and translocates to the nucleus where it influences gene expression related to glucose metabolism and energy homeostasis. Animal studies have shown effects on insulin sensitivity, body weight, and exercise performance.
How long it's been studied
MOTS-C was first characterized in 2015 by researchers at USC. Preclinical work has accumulated; human clinical evidence is limited. Cannot currently be compounded under 503A.
Dosing
Pending regulatory clarity.
This page is informational, not a dispensing aid. MOTS-C is dispensed only on a patient-specific prescription written by a licensed doctor for an identified patient. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and should not be evaluated using branded-drug trial data. Availability varies by state and prescribed medication.
How to access MOTS-C through RonanRx
MOTS-C is currently in Category 2 and not available for 503A compounding. RonanRx is tracking the FDA review and will notify partner clinics when the decision allows compounding access.
